for Karla Allen
Cephalalgia, as doctors call it,
affects nine areas of head and neck.
Never pain in the brain, it seems. All it
involves is the cranium, eyes, ears…heck,
even sinuses and mucous membranes.
But it feels like your whole body’s pounding
against a brick wall, doesn’t it? Insane
repeating of hammering, confounding
your whole day, radiating suffering
out through our universe. Some folks say prayer
can help. I’ve found that’s true: its buffering
each blow with growing ease. I suspect there’s
also peace from this: Ask that gentle lug
you live with for one of his loving hugs!
And bless.
