THE YOU YOU USED TO BE

And so your struggle between gravity
and light has led you here, eyes studying
night skies, your heart fearing depravity
of previous years will rip mended wings
soaring your psyche toward a different
reality than you knew, than you’ve known
ever in this life. Did you know I’ve spent
years watching you glide and fall, how you’ve flown
again with greater grace, despite deep doubt?
Have I said how I see constellations
in your ocean eyes? How they thrive without
outside energy? Hear this sensation:
You needn’t fear the you you used to be.
The you you are now senses how you’re free.
